1. Overview
JoCoTaxAppeal LLC ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use jocotaxappeal.com, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.
By using our website or services, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Property address — entered when you look up your assessment. This is a publicly listed address used to retrieve public county records.
- Email address — collected at checkout (via Stripe) and optionally when you sign up for the Full Service waitlist. Used to send your receipt, order confirmation, and any support correspondence.
Information collected automatically:
- Server logs — standard web server logs including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. Retained for up to 90 days for security and diagnostic purposes.
- Cookies — we use minimal session cookies required for the checkout flow (Stripe sets its own cookies). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Information we do not collect:
- We do not store your credit card number or payment details. All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., which has its own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
- We do not collect your name, phone number, or physical mailing address.
- We do not build user profiles or track behavior across third-party websites.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide the service — your property address is used to retrieve publicly available Johnson County assessment data and generate your appeal documents.
- To process your payment — your email is passed to Stripe to complete checkout and send your receipt.
- To respond to support requests — if you email us at info@jocotaxappeal.com, we use your email to respond.
- To improve our service — aggregate, anonymized usage data helps us understand how the product is being used and where to improve it.
- To comply with law — we may retain or disclose information if required by applicable law, regulation, or legal process.
We do not use your information for advertising, behavioral targeting, or any purpose not listed above.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Stripe — your email address and payment information are shared with Stripe, Inc. to process your transaction. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant. See stripe.com/privacy.
- Vercel — our website is hosted on Vercel, Inc. Standard server request data (IP address, headers) is processed by Vercel's infrastructure. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Legal compliance — we may disclose information if required by a court order, subpoena, or applicable law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of JoCoTaxAppeal LLC or others.
No other third parties receive your personal information.
5. Public Property Data
The assessment data, comparable sales, and property details displayed in our app are sourced from publicly available Johnson County government records (land.jocogov.org and related county systems). This information is public by law. We do not control its accuracy and are not responsible for errors in the underlying county data.
6. Data Retention
We retain your email address and order information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide support, process potential refunds, and comply with our legal obligations — typically no longer than 2 years from your purchase date.
Server logs are retained for up to 90 days. Generated PDF documents are stored on our servers for up to 30 days after generation, after which they are automatically deleted.
You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing info@jocotaxappeal.com. We will respond within 10 business days.
7. Cookies
We use only the cookies strictly necessary to operate the service:
- Session cookies — temporary cookies that expire when you close your browser, used to maintain your state during the appeal flow and checkout process.
- Stripe cookies — set by Stripe during checkout for fraud prevention and payment processing. These are governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other advertising or behavioral tracking technologies.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. Our website is served over HTTPS. Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe and no card data touches our servers.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take this seriously and will notify you promptly in the event of a breach that affects your personal data.
9. Children's Privacy
Our services are intended for adults who own or are authorized to act on behalf of property owners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us immediately at info@jocotaxappeal.com and we will delete it promptly.
10. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate information.
- Deletion — request that we delete your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements.
